An Inviting Journey Through Time and Nature Krk, a jewel of Kvarner Bay, beckons with its rich history, picturesque nature, and exquisite cuisine. As one of the oldest inhabited islands in the Adriatic, it boasts a past that dates back to Roman times, as evidenced by the famous Baška Tablet (11th century), a precious monument of the Glagolitic script. In the Middle Ages, the island was marked by the Frankopans, an important Croatian noble family. A trip to Krk offers numerous experiences.
In Punat, a boat trip to the islet of Košljun stands out, where a Franciscan monastery with an important collection of sacred art is located. Gastronomic delights can be found in the restaurants of Marina Punat or the Olive Garden Konoba Restaurant, which impresses with its panoramic view of Punat.
The town of Krk invites you to visit the Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary from the 12th century and to stroll through the picturesque streets of the old town center. The Frankopan Castle dominates the town, and an archaeological museum is available for history buffs. After exploring, refresh yourself on Dražica beach or the famous Porporela, and taste local specialties such as scampi buzara or fresh fish, accompanied by local white wine in the old part of town.
Don’t miss the romantic town of Vrbnik, which dramatically rises on a cliff and is known for the Vrbnička Žlahtina wine and the narrowest street in the world. Its impressive location on a 50-meter cliff provides stunning views.
Punat also offers a rich selection of activities: a ski-lift, rental of various vessels, from speedboats to sailboats, a taxi boat for visiting hidden beaches and bays, and numerous sports activities along the coast, including jet ski rentals and diving. A short drive from Punat offers additional challenges at the Zip-line or climbing at the Portafortuna or Belove Stene climbing areas.
Punat is an ideal starting point for cycling and hiking. A branched network of cycle paths invites you to discover this wooded island, either along the coast or inland, along trails separated from the roads by a green belt. Well-maintained and marked hiking trails, following the coast and its bays, offer 300 kilometers of unforgettable experiences. The European Camino network is also present on the island, measuring approximately 150 km and marked with yellow arrows, and it can be uploaded to a GPS system. Discover the beauties of this Mediterranean island through a unique perspective of nature and history.
